I was born in London but moved to the West Country in the 70's. I originally trained as an architectural stained glass artist and then went on to get a degree in ceramics at the University of the West of England in Bristol.
I taught adults for four years in colleges in Bristol. My art education - training also includes - photography, printing, copper plate, wood etching, and silk screen, interior design, digital 'art' and mosaic. At present I live on the coast in Devon.
I have exhibited at various venues which include-
- V & A
- The Bristol Guild
- Gloss Gallery, Exeter
- Boston Tea Party, Exeter
- Thelma Hulbert Gallery, Honiton
- Red Earth Gallery, Bickliegh
- Pier Head Gallery, Exmouth
- Swordfish Gallery
- Bridport Art Centre
- Tiverton Museum
- Hot House Gallery, Taunton
I enjoy a variety of artist styles and mediums having trained and studied a wide range of disciplines and techniques. I often do a fair amount of preliminary sketches in pastel or pencil before attempting a new body of work - this helps get my ideas out of my head and kick start the process towards a 'work of art'. Being spontaneous straight onto a canvas or with clay does happen at times. I will sometimes use mix media to get the result I am trying to achieve, as in my mono photo print paintings, and I am not averse to occasionally using a computer to help formulate ideas! As my father came from Inishmore one of the Aran Islands off of the west coast of Ireland and my mother was born in London I experienced a diverse range of lifestyles whilst growing up which is probably reflected in my work. Nature, travel and music are my main inspirations. I love being creative and usually do something artistic every day, even if it is only a small sketch.
